GAUTENG PUBLIC HEARINGS ON THE EDUCATION LAWS AMENDMENT BILL

The Gauteng Legislature Education Portfolio Committee Chairperson, Ms Barbara Creecy, will be hosting public hearings on the Education Laws Amendment Bill, 2002 on Tuesday, 22 October in Johannesburg.

The hearings will afford members of the public and stakeholders in the Education sector an opportunity to voice their opinions about the bill whose purpose is to make technical adjustments to and incorporate matters that are necessary for the proper implementation of the following Acts which regulate the school system.

The proposed amendments include among others the lowering of the school admissions age by six months in both public and private schools; the creation of one common national process for the assessment of learner achievement in the country; the creation of a code of conduct for school governing bodies whose b breach by the members could lead to termination membership or the suspension of the member.
