Government Officials
Ladies and Gentlemen

On behalf of the South African delegation I thank you most sincerely for the spirit in which our deliberations have been conducted this morning. I am sure that this spirit will continue throughout the duration of your visit.

Allow me to express our appreciation to the Government and people of the Federal Republic of Germany for their increased engagement in and support of South Africa. The scope of your support allow us to face our challenges with growing confidence.

Your initiative in formalising co-operation between the European Union and Southern African Development Community has altered the way in which we approach regional challenges, paving the way for our region to play a more meaningful role as a stabilising force in Africa.

Ladies and Gentlemen, with these few words, I request you to join me in a toast to the people of Germany and their Government and to the further expansion and consolidation of the friendship between our two countries, through the successful completion of the second Binational Commission.

To Germany.

Issued by: Office of the Deputy President
