ROAD TRAFFIC ACT, 1989 (ACT NO 29 of 1989)

ESTABLISHMENT of A PERSONALISED REGISTRATION NUMBER SYSTEM FOR THE MPUMALANGA PROVINCE

I, Abdulah Mohammed Omar, Minister of Transport, acting under regulation 199A of the Road Traffic Regulations, hereby establish the following personalised registration number system for the Mpumalanga Province:

A personalised registration number allocated and issued to any motor vehicle registered in the Mpumalanga Province, shall consist of -

  1. three figures, followed by three letters, followed by the logo as prescribed in the schedule to Government Notice No. R. 628 dated 30 April 1997, followed by the letters MP denoting the Mpumalanga Province;
  2. three letters, of which one or more may be vowels, followed by three figures, followed by the prescribed logo        , followed by the letters MP denoting the Mpumalanga Province: Provided that the first letter of a combination shall not be the letter G;
  3. three letters consisting of the following combinations:
  1. three of the same letters, excluding the letters GGG: or
  2. the letters BMW, DKW, FRD, HND, KDT, LND, MBZ, MRC, MZD, NSN, PCS, SKZ or ZCC,

followed by the three figures consisting of the following combinations:

  1. three of the same figures; or
  2. the figures 090, 110, 130, 140, 150, 160, 180, 200, 230, 240, 250, 260, 280, 300, 302, 306, 316, 318, 320,, 323, 325, 335, 340, 341, 380, 400, 405, 420, 500, 525, 530, 540, 600, 601, 602, 605, 606, 626, 740, 750, 786, 850, 900, 911, 928, 944 or 960,

followed by the logo as prescribed in the schedule to Government Notice No. R. 628 dated 30 April 1997, followed by the letters MP denoting the Mpumalanga Province;

  1. at least one but a maximum of six letters, followed by the logo as prescribed in the Schedule to Government Notice No. 628 dated 30 April 1997 followed by the letters MP denoting the Mpumalanga Province;
  2. a combination of a maximum of six letters and figures, followed by the logo as prescribed in the Schedule to Government Notice No. 628 dated 30 April 1997 followed by the letters MP denoting the Mpumalanga Province; or
  3. at least one but a maximum of six figures, followed by the logo as prescribed in the Schedule to Government Notice No. 628 dated 30 April 1997 followed by the letters MP denoting the Mpumalanga Province:

Provided that the first six characters of a personalised registration number shall not consist of the combinations which appear in the registration number system, the motor trade number system, or the temporary or special permit number system of the Mpumalanga Province.
