ROAD TRAFFIC ACT, 1989 (ACT NO 29 OF 1989)

ESTABLISHMENT OF A PERSONALISED REGISTRATION NUMBER SYSTEM FOR THE GAUTENG PROVINCE

I, Abdullah Mohamed Omar, Minister of Transport, acting under regulation 199A(1) of the Road Traffic Regulations, hereby establish the following personalised registration number system for the Gauteng Province:

A personalised registration number allocated and issued to any motorvehicle registered in the Gauteng Province, shall consist of—

  1. at least one but a maximum of six letters, followed by the logo as prescribed in the Schedule to Government Notice No. 2114 of 27 December 1996, followed by the letters GP denoting the Gauteng Province;

  2. a combination of a maximum of six letters and figures, followed by the logo as prescribed in the Schedule to Government Notice No. 2114 of 27 December 1996, followed by the letters GP denoting the Gauteng Province; or

  3. at least one but a maximum of six figures, followed by the logo as prescribed in the Schedule to Government Notice No. 2114 of 27 December 1996, followed by the letters GP denoting the Gauteng Province:

Provided that the first six characters of a personalised registration number shall not consist of the combinations which appear in the registration number system, the motor trade number system, or the temporary or special permit number system of the Gauteng Province.
