ROAD TRAFFIC ACT, 1989 (ACT NO 29 OF 1989)
AMENDMENT OF REGISTRATION NUMBER SYSTEM FOR THE GAUTENG PROVINCE
I, Abdulah Mohamed Omar, Minister of Transport, acting under regulation 199(2)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulations, hereby amend the registration number system for the Gauteng Province as published by Government Notice No. R. 2114 of 27 December 1996, by the substitution for subparagraph (ii) of paragraph (a) of the said notice of the following subparagraph:
"(ii) on application in terms of regulation 200(2) of the Road Traffic Regulations
three figures, followed by three letters, followed by the logo as prescribed in the schedule hereto, followed by the letters GP denoting the Gauteng Province;
three letters, of which one or more may be vowels, followed by three figures, followed by the prescribed logo, followed by the letters GP denoting the Gauteng Province: Provided that the first letter of a combination shall not be the letter G; or
three letters, followed by three figures, followed by the prescribed logo and the letters GP denoting the Gauteng Province, consisting of the following combinations:
(aaa) three of the same letters, excluding the letters GGG; or
(bbb) the letters BMW, DKW, FRD, HND, KDT, LND, MBZ, MRC, MZD, NSN PCS, SZK or ZCC; and
(ccc) three of the same figures; or,
(ddd) the figures 090,110, 130, 140, 150, 160,1 80, 200, 220, 230, 240, 250, 260, 280, 300, 302, 306, 316, 318, 320, 323, 325, 335, 340, 341, 380, 400, 405, 420, 500, 525, 530, 540, 600, 601, 602, 605, 606, 626, 740, 760, 786, 850, 900, 911, 928, 944 or 960.".
