REMUNERATION OF PUBLIC OFFICE BEARERS ACT, 1998 (ACT NO. 20 OF 1998)

DETERMINATION OF UPPER LIMA OF SALARIES AND ALLOWANCES OF
MEMBERS OF MUNICIPAL COUNCILS

Under the powers vested in me by section 7(1) of the Remuneration of Public Office Bearers Act, 1998 (Act No. 20 of 1998), and after consultation with the member of the Executive Council responsible for local government in each province, I, Fholisani Sydney Mufamadi, Minister for Provincial and Local Government, hereby amend Government Notice No. R.903 of 19 July 1999, as set out in the Schedule.

SCHEDULE

Definition

1. In this Schedule Notice means Government Notice No. R.903 of 19 July 1999.

Amendment of item 7 of the Notice

2. Item 7 is hereby amended by the insertion of the following proviso after paragraph (a):

"Provided that a member of a municipal council that does not so reside and is in receipt of a travel allowance on 30 June 1999, retains such allowance, on condition that it may not be increased."

Amendment of item 8 of the Notice

3. Item 8 is hereby amended by the substitution for paragraph (a) of the following paragraph:

"(a) Where the salaries and allowances which on 30 June 1999 are applicable to a particular position occupied by a member of a municipal council exceeds the salaries and allowances determined by this Notice for such post, any member of a municipal council occupying such position retains such higher level of payment, but on condition that no further upward adjustment be made in respect of such level of payment until the upper limits determined in terms of section 7 of the Remuneration of Public Office bearers Act, 1998, equal such present higher levels, whereafter further adjustment will again apply to the position in question.".
