GOVERNMENT NOTICE

DEPARTMENT OF LABOUR

BASIC CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT ACT, No. 75 OF 1997

EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS COMMISSION INVESTIGATION: HOSPITALITY SECTOR, REPUBLIC OF SOUTH AFRICA

In terms of section 52 (1) of the Basic Conditions of Employment Act, No. 75 of 1997,1, Membathisi Mphumzi Shepherd Mdladlana, Minister of Labour, hereby direct the Employment Conditions Commissioner to investigate conditions of employment in the Hospitality Sector in the Republic of South Africa.

I give notice in terms of section 52 (3) of the Basic Conditions Act, 1997, of the commencement of said investigation and invite written representation by members of the public.

The terms of reference of the investigation shall be as follows:

  1. To review the following wage determinations:
  1. Wage Determination 479: Accommodation Establishment Trade, Certain Areas;
  2. Wage Determination 461: Catering Trade, Certain Areas;
  3. Wage Determination 457: Hotel Trade, Certain Areas;
  4. Wage Determination 477: The Trade of Letting of Flats or Rooms, Certain Areas, and to establish the feasibility of grouping them together in a single determination for the Hospitality Sector.
  1. To make recommendations regarding wages and working conditions in the Republic of South Africa pertaining to this sector.

Interested persons are hereby given the opportunity of making written representations to the Employment Conditions Commission, such representations should reach the Directorate: Minimum Standards, Department of Labour, Private Bag X117, Pretoria, 0001, within 30 days of the publication of this notice.
