PROCLAMATION

by the President of the Republic of South Africa

NATIONAL HEALTH LABORATORY SERVICE ACT, 2000 (ACT No. 37 OF 2000): COMMENCEMENT

Under section 29 of the National Health Laboratory Service Act, 2000 (Act No. 37 of 2000), I hereby determine 1 October 2001 as the date on which-

1. sections 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 18, 19, 22, 23, 25, 26, 27, 28 and 29 of the said Act and items 1, 3 and 4 of the Schedule to the said Act come into operation in KwaZulu-Natal Province; and
2. sections 15, 16, 17, 20, 21 and 24 of the said Act and items 2, 5, 6 and 7 of the Schedule to the said Act come into operation in the whole Republic.

The coming into operation of the sections and items referred to above does not apply to-

1. forensic chemistry laboratories under the control of the Department of Health;
2. National Centre for Occupational Health; and
3. forensic pathology laboratories under the control of the provincial departments responsible for health.
