PROCLAMATION
by the President of the Republic of South Africa
SPECIAL ALLOWANCES OF MEMBERS OF THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY AND PERMANENT DELEGATES TO THE NATIONAL COUNCIL OF PROVINCES
In terms of section 3 (1) of the Remuneration of Public Office Bearers Act, 1998 (Act No. 20 of 1998), I hereby determine. that a once off special allowance equal to one twelfth of the total annual remuneration payable with regard to the relevant grade of member or office bearer of Parliament in terms of Proclamation No. 79, 1998 of 14 August 1998, shall be payable to person who, on 1 June 1999
is a permanent delegate to the National Council of Provinces, and who is not subsequently re-appointed by the provincial legislature concerned in terms of section 61 (2) (b) of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996, pursuant to the election of the provincial legislature on 2 June 1999.
Provided that, subject to the above provisions, no allowance is payable in terms of this proclamation to a person who, within one month of 1 June 1999, is elected or appointed to any office under the State and receives or will receive remuneration for serving in that office.
Provided further that the once off special allowance above, due to the members as at 1 June 1999, need not be paid to such persons until after 30 June 1999.
