TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION COMMISSION:

COMMITTEE ON AMNESTY

PROCLAMATION UNDER SECTION 20 OF THE PROMOTION OF NATIONAL UNITY AND RECONCILIATION ACT, 1995 (ACT No. 34 OF 1995)

Notice is hereby given that amnesty in terms of section 20 (1) of the Promotion of National Unity and Reconciliation Act, 1995 (Act No. 34 of 1995), was granted

  1. (a) on 3 April 1998 to PHINEAS NDLOVU (born on 15 March 1968), in respect of the assault on an unknown policeman at Daveyton during November 1985 for which he was convicted and sentenced;
  2. (b) on 5 February 1998 to CAREL WILLEM ANDRIES VAN DER MERWE (Identity Number 520110 5036 08 0), in respect of—

    (i) contravention of section 54 (1), read with sections 1, 54 (4), (6) and (8), 68 and 69, of the Internal Security Act, 1982 (Act No. 74 of 1982) (terrorism relating to the bombing of Melkrivier School); or

    (ii) the contravention of section 27 (1), read with section 27 (1) (c), of the Explosives Act, 1956 (Act No. 26 of 1956),

    commited in the District of Nylstroom on or about 2 January 1992;

  3. (c) on 7 April 1998 to SYDNEY NDABA (Identity Number 481120 5519 08 1), in respect of the offenses—

    (i) possession of an AK47 gun;

    (ii) possession of 16 rounds of ammunition for an AK47 gun;

    (iii) possession of an unlicenced pistol; and

    (iv) possession of four rounds of ammunition for the afore-mentioned pistol,

    at 82 Siluma View, Kathlehong, on 16 January 1991; and

  4. (d) on 7 April 1998 to GERRIT PHILIPUS ANDERSON (Identity Number 550622 5017 08 7), in respect of the contravention of section 2 of the Arms and Ammunition Act, 1969 (Act No. 75 of 1969), for possession of—

(i) 11 homemade firearms;

(ii) one .39 Special Luger revolver with serial number 39520;

('ii) one 9 mm Star pistol with serial number 7182; and

(iv) one 9 mm Star pistol with serial number 1717895,

During the period between 1 May 1993 and 8 June 1994 at Umhlothi in KwaZulu/Natal.
