Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma has been nominated by the International Women's Forum for an award titled "Women who make a difference" which will be conferred upon her on Saturday 19 October 2002 in Mexico.
Minister Dlamini Zuma was nominated for her leadership qualities from her student days, as Vice President of the then South African Students Association (SASO), her role within the ANC Youth League and Women's League.
The IWF also noted the sterling role she played as Minister of Health in pioneering legislation that helped to bring about a better quality of life for the ordinary people in the areas of primary health care, HIV-AIDS; access to affordable drugs, the ban on sports sponsorship of tobacco and smoking in public places.
The IWF further noted the role she is currently playing as Foreign Minister in efforts to bring about peace, security and stability as a pre-requisite for development for the region and continent of Africa.
The Minister will also attend the IWF Global Conference scheduled for 16-19 October. The Minister will then proceed to Algeria, where she will be accompanying President Thabo Mbeki and other government Ministers to attend the SA-Algeria Binational Commission scheduled for 22-23 October 2002.
