Preliminary consultations with the two delegations took place on Monday, 19 August 2002, and actual ceasefire negotiations began on Tuesday, 20 August 2002.
The CNDD-FDD and the Transitional Government have committed themselves to the negotiations, and have also reaffirmed their determination to work towards peace and stability in Burundi.
We are satisfied with the progress made by the two delegations thus far, and are optimistic that they will find common ground for the sake of the future of Burundi and its people.
