The Minister of Social Development Dr. Zola Skweyiya has said that he will not oppose the court application to revert the administration of social security from provinces to National as requested by Munyamani Samuel Mashava, assisted by the Legal Resources Centre (LRC).

"Cabinet took a decision 1997 for the establishment of a nationally - organised social security in the country. This was based on the recommendation of the Committee for the Restructuring of Social Security headed by Reverend Frank Chikane. Cabinet further reaffirmed this decision during 2000 and its main objective is to ensure the improvement of service delivery for the poorest of the poor. We will be working closely with provinces in this regard."

Meanwhile the National Department of Social Development is working closely with the provinces to ensure the implementation of the decision to establish the nationally organised social security system.

"Work is already underway on the business case for an agency model and the implementation of the proposed delivery model for a national social security system." Further said the Minister

The Legal Resource Center agreed to accommodate the Department of Social Development in negotiating the terms of the order being sought.

The case relates to the application for the disability grant by Mr. Samuel Muzamani Mashava in Limpopo which was delayed for an extended period of time .
