UPDATE ON TALKS BETWEEN THE REPUBLIC OF RWANDA AND THE DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO

The talks between the Republic of Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, (DRC), aimed at achieving peace and stability in the two countries, adjourned at 17h00 today, on Saturday the 20th of July, and will resume tomorrow, on 21 July 2002 in Pretoria.

Deputy President Jacob Zuma is chairing the meeting, which began on Thursday, 18 July 2002.

A lot of progress has been made over the last two days. The talks are taking place in an amicable and constructive atmosphere, and both delegations remain optimistic that a solution will be found.

The two delegations are led by the Minister in the Presidency in Rwanda, Mr Patrick Mazimhaka and Minister in the Presidency in the DRC, Mr Mwanke Katumba.
