A consultation between the delegations from the Republic of Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, (DRC), took place from 17 July to 11 July 2002 in Durban, under South African facilitation.
The discussions, chaired by Deputy President Jacob Zuma, are aimed at achieving lasting peace and stability in the two countries.
The delegations were led by the Minister in the Presidency in the DRC, Mr Mwake Katumba and Minister in the Presidency in Rwanda, Mr Patrick Mazimhaka.
The consultations adjourned this morning, on 11 July 2002, to allow the delegations time to consult their principals. Discussions are scheduled to resume in Pretoria next week.
The discussions took place in an amicable atmosphere, and both delegations re-affirmed their commitment to finding a solution that will lead to lasting peace in the two countries.
