The Minister of Correctional Services, Mr Ben M Skosana MP, has ordered the transfer of the four prisoners who were shown in last night's SABC Special Assignment programme from Grootvlei prison to another prison for their own safety.
The Minister has further given instructions for the suspension of all the warders implicated in the video, so that further investigations may continue without hindrance.
The Department has since dispatched a team to Grootvlei in Bloemfontein to carry out the necessary procedures as a first step towards implementing the Minister's decision.
The video was first shown before the Jali Commission at the Free State High Court yesterday as part of the Commission's investigation into allegations of corruption, maladministration, intimidation or nepotism in several prisons.
The Jali Commission was established by the President following a request by the Minister of Correctional Services.
The report and recommendations of the Jali Commission will provide Correctional Services with a platform and foundation to deal with these issues across the board without investigating all the prisons in the country.
