STATEMENT OF CONDOLENCES BY THE MINISTER OF COMMUNICATIONS, DR IVY MATSEPE-CASABURRI AS THE NATION MOURNS THE UNTIMELY DEATH OF PETER MOKABA

Issued by: Government Communication Information System

11 June 2002

On behalf of the Ministry of Communications, I wish to express my heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the late Comrade Peter Mokaba as well as to the African National Congress.

His untimely death has robbed our people and the country as a whole of a dedicated revolutionary who was always ready to make sacrifices in defence of his people's rights to be free and to be treated with human dignity.

There is no doubt that the illustrious contribution of Comrade Mokaba enabled us to break the shackles of apartheid oppression. This achievement first expressed itself when in 1994 the majority of our people-black and white, men and women, young and old- gave a big no to apartheid and a standing ovation to democracy and freedom.

As we grapple with the challenge of transforming South Africa into a prosperous and caring country, we were always counting on this seasoned and disciplined revolutionary.

While his death has taken us by surprise, we will not loose sight of the mammoth task that he has left us with. In his honour, we will not rest until we have achieved our objective of creating a democratic, non-racial, non-sexist and prosperous South Africa.

Roar Young Lion Roar!!!!!!!
Robala ka kgotso qhawe lama qhawe!
