MINISTER ASKS FOR PROPOSALS TO IMPROVE CONDITIONS OF CHILDREN AFFECTED BY HIV/AIDS

The Minister of Social Development Dr Zola Skweyiya has called on the Conference on Coordinated Action for Children Affected by HIV/AIDS for concrete proposals that will help improve policies, programmes and services for the most vulnerable children especially those affected by HIV/AIDS.

"We look forward to this conference to come with concrete proposals that will further strengthen our efforts of creating a better life for all the children especially those affected by HIV/AIDS. HIV AIDS is a problem that requires government, business, labour, civil society and communities to work closely together to find sustainable solutions especially with regard to the provisioning of adequate services relating to the rights of children enshrined in the constitution", the Minister said.

The conference held in Midrand is attended by about 300 delegates representing government, non-governmental organisations, community-based organisations, faith-based organisations as well as African States and international agencies.

The conference theme is a "Call for Coordinated Action for Children Affected by HIV/AIDS" The conference started on 2 June and ends today. Its resolutions are expected to be tabled to cabinet for consideration.
