THE MOZAMBICAN GOVERNMENT'S REQUEST FOR RELIEF ASSISTANCE

The Mozambican High Commission in Pretoria today, Monday 27 May, informed Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma of the request for relief assistance for victims of the recent train crash that left over 100 people dead and over 167 wounded.

The request from the Mozambican High Commission was made on behalf of the Maputo Central hospital, which is tendering the wounded. The request is for gloves, surgical knives, surgical clothes, anaesthetics, syringes, bandages and drugs.

The Department of Foreign Affairs is currently working on co-ordinating the contributions from both the public and private sector. Those wishing to contribute should contact Mr. Kevin Brennan at 012 3511460/3511000.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs reiterates the heartfelt condolences of the South African Government to the government and people of Mozambique, families, friends and colleagues of those who lost their loved ones whilst wishing those wounded a speedy recovery.
