Deputy President Jacob Zuma will tomorrow (Friday, 17 May 2002) take the government's fight against HIV and AIDS to Mtubatuba in northern KwaZulu Natal.

The Deputy President will attend the launch of the Africa Centre for Health and Population Studies at kwaSomkhele, in the Mpukunyoni Tribal Authority in Mtubatuba. He will attend the function as part of the government's efforts of intensifying the battle against the spread and impact of HIV and AIDS in rural communities.

The research centre, which is built on the land that was donated by Inkosi Mkhwanazi of Mpukunyoni Tribal Authority, hopes to find solutions to the health and population problems facing communities in rural and semi-urban areas. Partners in the project are the Medical Research Council, the University of Natal and its medical school and the University of Durban Westville.
