Deputy President Jacob Zuma today visited Angola as an envoy of President Mbeki. The visit was aimed at affirming South African support for the Angolan peace process, and to strengthen relations between the two countries.
Deputy President Zuma met with President Eduardo dos Santos. The two leaders discussed various areas of mutual interest and the peace process. The Deputy President assured President dos Santos of South African support and extended good wishes for the reconstruction and development of the country, and lasting peace.
The Deputy President also met with the Peace and Reconciliation Commission, which comprises parliamentarians from all political parties in the Angolan National Assembly. The Deputy President briefed the commission on the South African transition to democracy and the Multiparty negotiations process, and said South Africans were willing to share their experiences.
