The Chief of the SANDF, General Siphiwe Nyanda, together with the South African Ambassador to Angola, Tony Msimanga, will represent South Africa at the signing ceremony of the cease-fire agreement between the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA) and UNITA scheduled for Luanda on Thursday 4th April 2002.
The South African government will continue to support all efforts aimed at bringing about peace as a basis for national reconciliation among all Angolan people. We know too well the amount of pain and untold suffering war has brought to bear on the lives of ordinary Angolans.
In this regard, South Africa expresses its hope that the negotiation of the terms for a final peace settlement will expedited in Angola to ensure that the reconstruction of Angola can begin in earnest. South Africa regards the rebuilding of the Angolan economy as key to promoting future development and stability in the region.
