EARTHQUAKE IN AFGHANISTAN

The South African government is deeply saddened by the loss of an estimated 3000 lives in a series of earthquakes that rocked and completely devastated the market town of Nahrin and surrounding villages in Northern Afghanistan on Monday and Tuesday, and has left more than 20,000 people homeless.

The South African government expresses its condolences to the government and people of Afghanistan, bereaved families and wishes the wounded a speedy recovery.

It is trusted that recovery efforts will lead to a speedy improvement in the situation of those affected by the disaster.
