Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma left South Africa on Tuesday 26 February ahead of the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting (CHOGM) scheduled for 2-5 March in Australia.The South African delegation will be led by President Thabo Mbeki who will be accompanied by Mrs. Zanele Mbeki.
The Heads of Government are expected to review global developments including the fight against terrorism, WTO issues, barriers to investment in poor countries, private capital flows, HIV/AIDS and debt relief.
President Thabo Mbeki who is the current chairperson of the Commonwealth, will relinquish the position at this year's Commonwealth meeting and will oversee the successful conclusion of the work of the High Level Review Group on the Review of the Commonwealth and its governance mechanism.
President Thabo Mbeki is expected to arrive in Brisbane on Friday 1 March.
