The leader of the South African Observer Mission to the Presidential Elections in Zimbabwe Ambassador Dr. Samuel Motsuenyane has welcome the undertaking made by the Zimbabwean government to provide more security for the Observers to do their work during the election process In Zimbabwe.
"We welcome this important and significant undertaking to provide more security for the Observers in general and the SAOM members in particular. We believe that this move is in the best interest of the Zimbabwean people, the region and not least the world. The presence of the Observers is critical to the holding of a free and fair elections in Zimbabwe and the SAOM reiterates its commitment to work even harder to the realisation of the goal of Zimbabweans to have free and fair elections." Said Ambassador Motsuenyane
Ambassador Samuel Motsuenyane held a meeting with the Minister of Home Affairs Mr. John Nkomo yesterday to discuss the security of the South African Observers and other related matters.
Meanwhile the SAOM was to attend two rallies today (26 February, 2002 in Epworth and Mbare (Harare District) which were to be addressed by the ZANU-PF.
