MINISTER DLAMINI ZUMA OFFERS US$ 1 MILLION TO THE COMOROS PEACE PROCESS

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma today, Thursday 20 December offered US$1 million to the Comorian people in support of efforts aimed at the restoration of peace, democracy and the territorial integrity of the country.

Minister Dlamini Zuma is currently leading a delegation of Ministers and Deputy Ministers of Countries of the Region and the OAU aimed at assisting and encouraging the process of democratisation in the Comoros.

The Minister and her delegation were briefed on the commitment of the Comorian political parties and Government to the current peace process; forthcoming referendum and the elections. The leaders of the political parties gave Minister Dlamini Zuma and her delegation their unequivocal commitment to forging ahead with the peace and democracy process despite the repugnant events on the island of Moheli on Wednesday 19 December.

The parties expressed their sincere gratitude to Minister Dlamini Zuma, Countries of the Region and the OAU for their unflinching support in helping to bring the Comoros to the dawn of peace, democracy, security and stability. The leaders are of the firm view that the future of the Comoros is inextricably linked to the future of the region and the continent.

Minister Dlamini Zuma earlier met with President Azali Assoumani and is expected to visit the islands of Moheli and Anjouan on Friday 21 December before returning to South Africa.
