“Today I declare the first on road National Arrive Alive Information Centre open”

The National Minister of Transport Dullah Omar today declared the opening of the first on site National Arrive Alive Information Centre in Midrand. The Centre is based at the Shell Ultra City, North bond (on the N1 from Johannesburg to Pretoria).

Minister Omar said the Centre would collect and disseminate central information to all road users in the country. "For the first time road users will be able to have personal access to the center and ask all questions that will assist them to "Arrive Alive", Omar said.

The Centre will be able to advice road users on road conditions, tips and hints on how to Arrive Alive, give direction and any other relevant information that will assist drivers to Arrive Alive. The Minister added that the opening of the Centre would play a bigger role, as it will collect information that can be used in planning and policy direction. He said provinces would have their own provincial information centers that will feed into the central national center in Midrand.

"In our road to safety, we need to have accurate and more relevant information in order to be able to take informed decisions for the benefit of our people, with statistics received this festive season we will be able to know the situation on the ground" Omar said

Omar said the launch of the Road to Safety Strategy; the Centre will play a very critical role in collecting information that will give a direction on challenges and problems on the roads.

"The center has a particular role to play, and all of us have our own role to play, let us take responsibility of our safety and that of other road users and join each other on the road to safety", Omar said
