President Thabo Mbeki and his family learnt with great shock of the untimely death of Marike de Klerk today. On behalf of all South Africans, President Mbeki sends condolences to the family and friends of Marike de Klerk.
The Mbekis came to know Marike during the difficult time of South Africa's transition to democracy. She will be remembered by South Africans as a strong, charming and dignified woman. Their thoughts are with those now grieving the loss of this dynamic person.
