DEPUTY PRESIDENT ZUMA LAUNCHES NEW ROAD TO SAFETY STRATEGY FOR SA

Deputy President, Jacob Zuma will launch the new Road to Safety Strategy for South Africa at The Dome in Northgate on Tuesday November 20, 2001 at 9:30 am.

The strategy termed the "Road to Safety 2001-2005" is a result of an intense consultation with all community structures, Non-Governmental Organisations, the private sector and other stakeholders led by the Minister of Transport, Dullah Omar. The strategy puts a high priority on co-ordinated action in all the key areas of road safety; law enforcement, drive fitness and training, vehicle condition, fleet regulation, overload control, pedestrian education and safety, direct community road safety participation and active passenger and public empowerment. Representatives of community-based organisations, NGO's, the private sectors and all other stakeholders in the transport industry will attend the launch.
