TRANSPORT MINISTER's STATEMENT ON THE EVENT OF THE SETTING–ASIDE OF R62,4 MILION FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF MOLOTO ROAD

"Moloto road user are witnessing the fruits of a caring and committed government"

The National Minister of Transport, Dullah Omar welcome the setting aside of R62,4 Million by Mpumalanga government for the construction of 16.4 KM road from Kwamhlanga to Vlaklaagte as part of the on going construction and improvement of Moloto road.

The site will be handed over to construction companies at Mpumalanga government building today; November 9, 2001 at 11 AM. The construction of the road includes adding more traffic lanes to improve traffic flow.

Minister Omar said the improvement of Moloto road is a show of government on going commitment to improving infrastructure in the country and also ensuring that the pain and suffering extended to families and relatives of victims of road accidents comes to an end.

"We can say to the people of Mpumalanga and all Moloto road user that their cries have been heard, we will continue to improve the state of Moloto road until we reduce accidents to zero" Omar said.

Construction is expected to start after the site hand over and estimated to be completed in 18 months time.

The Minister added that Moloto road is also of continuous daily focus when it comes to law enforcement and other means of improving the state of the road and ensuring that all road users Arrive Alive.

"Our people should Arrive Alive at all cost and at no compromise, we will continue to improve the road and also engage community based structures on road safety education and awareness until we reduce the number of accidents to zero." Omar said
