Government has signed the wage agreement offer placed before public service unions earlier today. This comes after last minute informal negotiations at the Public Service Collective Bargaining Council (PSCBC) which ended a shortly after 7PM this evening (9 October 2001).
This offer includes revisions made by government around the issue of restructuring of the Public Service in the hope of securing the agreement of the majority of public service unions. Some unions signed the agreement this evening, and government is optimistic that others will re-consider their position's over-night to accept the amended offer.
The Minister for Public Service and Administration will reveal the details of the agreement as well as the position of government at a special briefing of the National Assembly tomorrow.
The wage component of government's offer translates into the following:

All public servants from levels 1 to 12 will receive a once off payment of R850 in lieu of pay progression
The Minister will address the substantive issues related to this agreement in a statement before the National Assembly tomorrow, Wednesday, 10 October 2001.
