“FOR THE TRANSPORT SECTOR TO WIN THE WAR AGAINST THE HIV/AIDS DISEASE “OUR ACTION COUNTS”
Transport Minister Dullah Omar, addressed delegates attending the third anniversary of the partnership against HVI/AIDS before they board a Shosholoza Meyl train on October 08, 2001 at Johannesburg Park Station to Port Elizabeth.
The anniversary follows the then Deputy President Thabo Mbeki launch of the partnership against AIDS in a 10-minute live television and radio broadcast to the nation. The following year, Deputy President Zuma re-dedicated government to the partnership and sectors once again pledged their support and ACTION.
The theme of the partnership is “OUR ACTION COUNTS”. The theme focuses strongly on ACTION and CARE as this year’s World AIDS theme is “ALL OUR ACTIONS COUNT”
The celebration will take place at the Centenary Hall, Port Elizabeth on Tuesday, October 9, 2001. The Deputy President, Jacob Zuma, Minister of Health, Dr M Tshabalala Msimang will address the gathering in Port Elizabeth.
In his address the Minister will re-commit the transport sector and other stakeholders in the industry to an aggressive and consolidated campaign to educate communities on issues of HIV/AIDS and also to support those who are already victims of the disease.
