In response to media queries, we wish to indicate that President Thabo Mbeki is experiencing discomfort in his left ankle. This is as a result of a slight sprain, and the resultant inflammation over the affected area.
The President is receiving treatment for this ailment, but due to a slight swelling of the ankle, he was advised to consider wearing a sandal on the affected foot, until the swelling has improved.
There are no complications and the ankle is responding well to treatment.
