President Mbeki has learnt with shock of the tragedy in the Kruger National Park where 19 people lost their lives in a fire between Skukuza and Pretoriuskop rest-camps.
On behalf of all South Africans, the President expresses sincere condolences to the families and friends of the deceased. Our hearts go out to those who have lost their loved ones.
South Africa salutes the bravery of those who died in the blaze whilst attempting to rescue those trapped by the fire. They will forever be remembered as heroes who make us proud to be South African. The President also wishes those injured in the blaze a speedy recovery.
Government will ensure that the matter is thoroughly investigated, and assistance rendered to the families of the deceased.
