1 August 2001

The Truth and Reconciliation Commission announced that amnesty was granted by the Amnesty Committee to Gerhardus Beeslaar for the malicious damage to property at Cosatu House, the unlawful possession of arms, ammunition and explosives, defeating the ends of justice.

Amnesty was refused to Maphuthi Chidi for the murder of Gideon Moeng in Tembisa by pouring petrol on him and setting his body alight while still alive. The widow of the deceased, Mrs Moeng and their three children are identified as victims and are referred to the Reparation and Rehabilitation Committee for consideration.
