Namibian Minister of Works, Transport and Communication, Mr Moses Amweelo and his delegation will arrive in the country today. The visit follows an invitation by the South African Transport Minister, Dullah Omar in Windhoek on September 8, 2000
Omar invited the Minister and his delegation to come to the country and share their experiences, information and ideas with South African transport officials for the two countries to learn from each other on how to best improve their transport system and also harmonize cross border transport.
The Minister will discuss among other issues, the cross border and overloading problems, implementation of the registration and licensing of vehicles in Namibia National Traffic information System (NaTIS) with South African technical assistance.
South Africa has been using (NaTIS) from 1994 to manage the registration and licensing of vehicles in the country. It is regarded as one of the best vehicle management system in the SADC region.
The delegation will also touch on the coordination of maritime related issues between two countries, and possible acquisition of rails and sleepers from South Africa.
The harmonization of national policies and laws in line with SADC Protocol on Transport, Communications and Meteorology will also be discussed as an issue of concern between the two countries.
