PHARMACISTS ASSISTANT READY TO BE DEPLOYED

Gauteng Health Department has completed a pilot training project for Assistant Pharmacists. This project, which started in March 2000, was successfully concluded in May 2001. This was the first-ever pilot project in the country.

These thirty-one Pharmacists Assistant will definitely contribute in the easing of the shortage of pharmacy services in our hospitals. This means that now the pharmacists will be able to concentrate of patient care thus making sure that the public spends less time on the queue before they receive their medicines. The Gauteng Health Department will handing over of certificates to Pharmacist Assistants. Their qualification enables them to be registered as basic level Pharmacists Assistants with the Pharmaceutical Council of South Africa.

The handing over of the certificates will be done by Dr Carol Marshall, Chief Director for Health Services Support, and Chief Director for Resource Management Ms Mary-Grace Msimango.

The event will take place tomorrow, 20 July 01 at the Pharmaceutical Society of South Africa - 52 Glenhove Avenue from 09h00 to 13h00. Media is invited.
