President Thabo Mbeki will be heading a strong South African delegation to World Economic Forum's Southern Africa Summit, to be held in Durban 6-8 June 2001. Included in the South African delegation are Deputy-President Jacob Zuma, Ministers Alec Erwin, Trevor Manuel, Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri and Valli Moosa. The Governor of the South African Reserve Bank, Mr Tito Mboweni, is also expected to attend.
The Summit, which this year will be focusing on Acting on Realities, Confronting Perceptions, is a platform through which the business and political leaders of the region can define and advance Southern Africa's aims.
A number of African Heads of State will also be participating, including President Joseph Kabila , President Festus Mogae , President Joaquim Chissano, and President John Kufuor.
The presence of top regional and international business executives with the political establishment makes the Summit an important networking occasion and it is expected that the MAP initiative will receive prominent attention.
The Director-General of Foreign Affairs, Sipho Pityana is also expected to address the WEF on Wednesday 7 June.
