SHILOWA VISITS MALAYSIA AND SINGAPORE

Gauteng Premier Mbhazima Shilowa leaves Friday (4 May 2001) on an official visit to Malaysia and Singapore. He will be accompanied by MEC for Finance and Economic Affairs Jabu Moleketi, MEC for Transport and Public Works Khabisi Mosunkutu and MEC for Housing Paul Mashatile.

The purpose of the visit is to seek foreign investment in Gauteng. The Gauteng delegation will particularly market the ten spatial development initiative (SDI) projects which were announced by the premier last year.

Investors from the two countries have already shown interest in the areas of tourism, information and communication technology and mass transportation.

Shilowa will also explore the possibility of establishing a partnership with Malaysia's premier state, Selangor. He will hold discussions in this regard with the deputy chief minister of the state. Selangor state, which includes the famous city of Kuala Lumpur, is the most developed and industrialised within Malaysia.

MEC for Safety and Liaison, Nomvula Mokonyane, will be acting premier of Gauteng while Shilowa is away.
