THE LAUNCH OF THE DIGITAL BROADCASTING ADVISORY BODY

The Ministry of Communications invites all media organizations to the launch of the Digital Broadcasting Advisory Body and the South African Broadcasting Production Body on the 09th of March 2001 at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg. The function is scheduled to take place from 15h00-16h00.

During the function the Minister of Communications, Dr Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri will announce the names and introduce to the public people who have been appointed to serve in the two bodies. The Digital Broadcasting Advisory Body was have been established in terms of Chapter 7, Section 7.6 of the White Paper on Broadcasting Policy. Its mandate is to advice government on issues relevant to the introduction of digital broadcasting, and to determine the actions government needs to undertake to become a leader and maintain competitiveness, quality and universal access in the digital environment The South African Broadcast Production Advisory Body was established in terms of Chapter 9, Section 38 of the Broadcasting Act No 4 of 1999, and its mandate include advising government on how development, production and display of local television and radio content can be supported.
