The Minister of Transport, Dullah Omar will be inspecting the rail conditions and systems on Monday. The Minister’s train trip will start at the Denneboom Station in Mamelodi during a peak hour at 07H00 when people will be moving up and down to get to work. The train will leave Denneboom Station at 07H06.
The Metro Rail train will then move to Koedoespoort when the Minister will inspect and visit the workshop where trains are regularly serviced. He will then board another train to the Pretoria Station. The Minister will have an opportunity to visit the Pretoria Station since it was burnt two weeks ago.
He is expected to address the media at the Press Conference at the Pretoria Station at 10H00. The conference will also be an opportunity for the media to take pictures of the burnt station, since permission to do so was limited. The Executive Mayor of Tshwane, Father Smangaliso Mkhatshwa; the MEC for Transport in Gauteng, Khabisi Mosunkutu; CEO of Metro Rail, Honey Mateya; Chairman of SARCC Board, Eddie Lekota; MD of SARCC, Ben van der Ross; Director-General:Transport, Sipho Msikinya are among senior VIP’s who will be joining the Minister for the inspection.
