MINISTER DULLAH OMAR ANNOUNCES A NEW BOARD OF THE SOUTH AFRICAN RAIL COMMUTER CORPORATION

The Minister of Transport, Mr Dullah Omar, announces the reconstitution of the Board of the SARCC as from the 28th February 2001.

The names of the Board of Control are as follows:

Representing the private sector are:

• Mr MP Malungani
• Mr WF Burger
• Mr JM Ngobeni
• Mr VA Daniels

Representing Government are:

• Mr O Shelembe - National Treasury
• Mr J Makokoane - National Department of Transport

Representing provinces are four participant observers from the following provinces (to be confirmed)

• Eastern Cape
• Western Cape
• Gauteng; and
• KwaZulu-Natal

Minister Omar has named Mr E Lekota as the Chairperson of the Board of Control, Mr P Malungani will serve as the Deputy Chairperson.

Mr Malungani has been the Acting Chairperson of the Board, and has indicated that he was unavailable for a permanent appointment. Mr Lekota's appointment takes effect from the 28 of February 2001.
