PRESIDENT MBEKI ANNOUNCES NEW APPOINTMENTS

President Mbeki today announced the appointment of Ms Lindiwe Nonceba Sisulu, the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, as the Minister of Intelligence in the place of Mr. Joe Nhlanhla who is not able to continue carrying out his duties due to a long illness. The President expressed his gratitude to Mr. Nhlanhla for his dedicated service to the government and the people of South Africa and wished him a speedy recovery.

The President also announced the appointment of the following Members of Parliament as Deputy Ministers:

The President believes that the newly appointed Minister, Deputy Ministers and Parliamentary Counsellor will make a valuable contribution in their respective portfolios.

The President further requested the Speaker of the National Assembly to appoint Ms. Susan van der Merwe as the Parliamentary Counsellor to the President in the place of Mr. Nqakula.

The appointed Minister and Deputy Ministers will be sworn in at the Union Buildings on Friday 26 January 2001.
