The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, arrived on Monday evening in Younde, Cameroon, to attend the Sanco Africa Summit.
She is accompanied by the Deputy Director General of Foreign Affairs Mr Welile Nhoapo, the chief director of Central and Tropical Africa Ms Lindiwe Zulu and other officials from the department. Today on the 16th she attended the Preparatory Ministerial Meeting, which was addressed by the Minister of State for External Relation of the United Republic of Cameroon, Mr Kontchou Kouomegni, and the Minster in Charge of Co-operation of the Republic of France, Mr Charles Josselin. The meeting was preparing for the Heads of state and government meeting, which will start on the 18th, Thursday. The theme of the summit is "Africa and the Challenges of Globalisation" and topics of discussion will be:
1) Africa and the Political Challenges of Globalisation -
a) Conflict and Peacekeeping in Africa
b) Democracy, Human Rights and Good Governance in Africa
2) Africa and the Economic and Environmental Challenges of Globalisation -
a) Economic Challenges: Economic Recovery, Debts, Poverty Alleviation, Integration within the World Economy
b) Environmental Challenges
3) Africa and Social, Cultural, Scientific and Technological Challenges of Globalisation -
a) Socio-Cultural Challenges: Health, Education, Culture, Society and Gender
b) New Information and Communication Technologies
4) Africa and France's Responses to the Challenges of Globalisation -
a) Africa's Response and Action to what has been discussed
b) France's Response and Action to what has been discussed
The Deputy President, Mr Jacob Zuma is expected to arrive tomorrow to attend the Heads of State and Government Summit, which on Thursday and Friday.
