THE LAUNCH OF TRAFFIC MOBILE COURTS IN KZN

29 November 2000

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Sbu Ndebele will officially launch the establishment of the mobile road traffic mobile courts in the province on Thursday, 30 November 2000 at N3, Cato Ridge North bound off-ramp at 10h30. These courts are for the disposal of traffic related cases in support of intensive enforcement operations aimed, in the main, at the following offences:

The roadside venues are contemplated as being placed for maximum impact and benefit. These courts will be based at:

  1. Bergville Interchange NE South located on the quadrant between the N3 and R600 in the magisterial area of Ladysmith.
  2. Cato Ridge Interchange located on the quadrant at the interchange at the village of Cato Ridge at the intersection of the N3 and R103 about 10 kilometres from Camperdown N3 and fifteen kilometres from Inchanga N3.
  3. Umdloti Interchange N2 North located on the property of the RTT which is adjacent to the N2 quadrant at the intersection of the R627 with direct access off N2 at marker board 3.6 N2 North. The location is on the toll road between Mt Edgecombe and Tongaat and also serves the R102 and M4 as well as adjacent routes.
  4. Park Ryne N2/ 23 South located adjacent to the quadrant of the N2 / R612 and serves the R102 and adjacent routes. This location also serves the TLC areas of Scottburgh, Umzinto, Umkomaas and Amanzimtoti as well as adjacent areas.

These measures are to complement other programmes in place in our endeavours to curb these unnecessary and unwarranted loss of lives in our roads particularly during festive seasons. Time has come to deal severely with reckless and irresponsible road-users.

The safety of our communities is paramount in the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport. The KZNDOT has gone all out to educate our society on road safety and, without taking such steps, our people's lives will be always endangered by few irresponsible road-users.

We are therefore calling on all our people to support these steps and report all unlawful practices in our roads.
