DEMISE OF SHEIKH NAZIM MOHAMED FORMER PRESIDENT OF THE MUSLIM JUDICIAL COUNCIL

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Aziz Pahad, expresses his sincere condolences on the demise of Sheikh Nazim Mohamed, former President of the Muslim Judicial Council, on 20 November 2000.

The Deputy Minister said that "Sheikh Nazim, being true and devout to the dictates of his religion was a strong and vociferous opponent of Apartheid and was an exemplary leader of the Muslim Community and a leading Islamic scholar. Sheikh Nazim was indeed a man of wisdom and very knowledgeable. His leadership and sincerity of purpose will be missed. I pray that the Almighty gives him Paradise". Sheikh Nazim Mohamed may be best remembered for rendering the Islamic prayer at the inauguration of President Mandela.

The Department of Foreign Affairs would like to extend its condolences to the family of Sheikh Nazim and empathise with them in this time of sorrow.
