Deputy President Jacob Zuma is to leave for Malaysia tomorrow, (Friday 17 November 2000), to attend the Global 2000 Langkawi International Dialogue (LID) conference, an initiative of the Commonwealth Partnership for Technology Management.
The purpose of the LID is to promote co-operative networking between government and business through smart partnerships. The theme of the conference is Smart Partnership - Global Trends in Emerging Economies.
The Deputy President will join Heads of State and Government as well as business leaders from the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and other Commonwealth countries. The focus of the conference is the sharing of practical experiences.

There will be a special session on Malaysia's approach to managing globalisation. The conference will also discuss solutions to the problem of negative news coverage of the developing world, including Africa, by media agencies and newspapers from the developed world.
The smart partnership concept has been going on for five years. The Deputy President will return to South Africa on November 23.
