The Deputy President, Mr Jacob Zuma met with the Coalition of Traditional Leaders today, on 13 November 2000, at Tuynhuis in Cape Town.
The Coalition was led by Nkosi Patekile Holomisa and Inkosi Mpiyezintombi Mzimela.
The meeting was held at the request of Amakhosi to consult with the Presidency on the proposed Municipal Structures Second Amendment Bill.
The meeting agreed that there would be continuous interaction between Government and Amakhosi, with a view to finding common ground before the passage of the Bill by Parliament.
In this interaction, Government will be represented by the Presidency, with the assistance of a special Cabinet Committee.
Members of the Cabinet Committee are Provincial and Local Government Minister Sydney Mufamadi, Justice and Constitutional Development Minister Penuel Maduna, Arts, Culture, Science and Technology Minister Ben Ngubane and Safety and Security Deputy Minister Joe Matthews.
Representing traditional leaders in the ongoing discussions will be Nkosi Holomisa, Inkosi Mzimela, Nkosi Mwelo Nonkonyana, Hosi Shilungwa Mhinga, Morena Mathealira Mopeli and Mr Steve Phiri.
