Finance Minister, Trevor Manuel, has neither resigned nor is about to resign.
The National Treasury is aware of wild rumours doing the rounds on some markets that the Minister of Finance, Trevor Manuel, is resigning.
Nothing could be further from the truth.
We would like to remind the public that unsubstantiated rumours of this sort are an annual special on some markets.
Perhaps there are one or two speculators who profit from these sorts of rumours, but we believe that spreading unsubstantiated stories such as this is a dishonest way of conducting business.
Mr Manuel is attending a meeting of the National Council of Provinces today, and is addressing the launch of a community newspaper to support small business tonight.
This weekend, he departs for Florida, where he will address the biennial client conference of the Templeton Investment Council next week.
