The Minister of Transport, Dullah Omar has learned with shock about the train crash involving two Metrorail passenger trains near Wadeville in Germiston. Minister Omar said that a report indicating possible causes of the crash will be requested and a fully investigation will follow.
He conveyed his condolences to the families and relatives of those who died during the crash and sent his sympathies and support to the families of the injured passengers. "Our prayers are with families and relatives of the those who passed away and we wish those in hospital a speedy recovery", the Minister Omar said.
By the time of this release, rescuers were already at the scene of the accident and they could move those trapped in the wreck after police switched off power lines.
